Where Do Our Puppies Come From?
We believe you should know exactly where your puppy comes from.
USDA-inspected breeders, never puppy mills
Shake A Paw buys puppies only from USDA-inspected and approved kennels. No puppy mills or substandard kennels here. The U.S. Department of Agriculture licenses commercial breeders under the federal Animal Welfare Act, and licensed breeders are subject to unannounced inspections by USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) covering housing, sanitation, feeding, veterinary care and handling.
Our breeder standards
At Shake A Paw, we are committed to working with reputable, properly licensed breeders who share our dedication to animal welfare, responsible breeding practices, and transparency. We carefully evaluate our breeders, reviewing their backgrounds, compliance history, and standards of care to ensure they meet our expectations.
Our commitment extends beyond the initial screening process, as we expect our breeders to consistently uphold these standards. We believe every customer deserves confidence and peace of mind when welcoming a new puppy into their family, which is why we are always happy to provide information about a puppy’s background and origin.
Breeder details on request
A puppy's breeder name, USDA license number, city and state are available on request. Ask any Puppy Specialist, or use the “Looking for more information?” form on the puppy's page.
Health checked three times
Every puppy arrives with a health certificate from the breeder's veterinarian. We then evaluate each puppy for temperament, breed standard and overall health, and our store veterinarian examines every puppy before it goes home.
Spaying and neutering
We recommend spaying or neutering at 6 months of age. Females should be spayed before their first heat; they do not need to have a litter first.
Allergies? We have a puppy for you
We specialize in low-shedding, hypo-allergenic breeds. Ask a Puppy Specialist which one is right for your family.
